The MICAH House Girl Scouts are looking to break a record. Last year, the troop gained attention from the national media, because of their mission to sell at least 1,000 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies, with at least one order in each of the 50 states. They ended the selling season with over 27,000 boxes sold.
MICAH House is an emergency shelter located in Council Bluffs, Iowa, providing services to families and women experiencing the crisis of homelessness in the Omaha and Council Bluffs metropolitan area. MICAH House is one of only two shelters in the area that prioritizes homeless families through their unique facility design with individual rooms. They implement a mission to provide a safe and nurturing environment with support services for those families and individuals in need.
This year, the MICAH House girls are taking the cookie sales season by storm, this time with a two-fold mission: to sell a minimum of 4,000 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies, and to spread kindness in the community.
Kindness is a big part of the troop’s operation. “Our troop recognizes that 2020 and 2021 have been especially difficult years for…our community as a whole,” shared Taylor Brown, philanthropy director at MICAH HOUSE. “Through their goal this year, they are hoping their message of kindness will reach as many people as possible.”
To build that kindness in Omaha, the girls encourage everyone who purchases a box to also “pay it forward,” and gift a box of Girl Scout Cookies to a loved one, a community member, or even to a a stranger.
The MICAH House Girl Scout troop has launched a live site where cookie-buyers can shop direct from the local team. On the site, shoppers will have the option to ship the cookies directly to their house, or to find a time for pickup from MICAH House.
