Cinco de Mayo and Omaha Farmers Market Return This Weekend!

Nebraska: Flatwater Video Installation at Gallery 1516, through July 3:
A collective of esteemed Nebraska creators come together in a new video exhibition celebrating our home state. Gallery 1516 is proud to present this 20-minute, immersive video installation full of clips and still shots exploring the natural beauty of Nebraska throughout the four seasons. With multiple projectors throughout the gallery space, this show will make visitors feel as through they are right in the mix of the Nebraska landscape, whether it be autumn wheat fields or snow along the Platte River. The Young Playwrights Festival, Thursday, May 5 to Sunday, May 8:
The Rose Theater happily presents the fruits of its year-long playwrights class in this theater festival. Each of the works showcased were written by some of the best teenage writers in the Omaha area, under the direction of The Rose’s own award-winning Playwright-in-Residence Brian Guehring. Attendees will get a pleasant mix of romance, tragedy, fear, and comedy, all wrapped up in an hour of onstage fun. Tonight’s show is free for teens with a call ahead. Cinco de Mayo Friday, May 6 to Sunday, May 8:
Cinco de Mayo is being celebrated this weekend in South Omaha. On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, the area along 24th St. from L-Q streets will be dressed to the nines, and the Plaza de la Raza at 24th and N Streets will host a full-fledged carnival in honor of Cinco de Mayo. The carnival will include favorite rides and midway games in the evenings. Other events include performances from traditional dance troupes, concerts with local Latin artists, and a full menu rich with authentic Mexican cuisine. Omahans can also join the fun with a parade on Saturday morning, traveling down 24th street from the D street intersection to L street. Omaha Farmers Market, Saturday, May 7 and Sunday, May 8:
The Omaha Farmers Market is back again this summer starting May 7-8. Trio 29 at The Jewell, Sunday, May 8:
Trio 29 is the latest musical venture from keyboardist Henry Hey, drummer Eric Halvorson, and organist Mitch Towne. Their unique sound comes from a variety of influences, including jazz, blues, funk, and soul, creating music that is both a blast for the performers to play, and a joy for audiences to experience.
