The client wished to renovate their dated, loud bathroom and envisioned a soothing primary suite—one that included the unique layout of having both the shower and tub within the same glass enclosure.
We went through several different design solutions, finally deciding to create a large, open area with just one privacy wall in the shower. The size, function, and look of the tub was extremely important to my clients. We positioned the soaker tub in front of the window so they could enjoy the view of their private backyard while soaking. The ceiling-mount tub fill called for intricate plumbing coordination to make it function as intended. The steam shower and tub are entirely enclosed in glass to give a luxurious hotel feeling with some unique design elements added. Mother of pearl tiles wrap the plumbing-fixture wall on all four sides, while large-format horizontal-wave tiles line the shower walls. Finally, pebble tiles provide a textural shower floor.
The primary bedroom closet was also renovated to incorporate the laundry room, plenty of general storage, and ample display space for handbags and shoes.
Renovations always come with unique challenges simply because you are working with existing materials and layouts. This project’s test was getting the floor plan to fit the tub, the steam shower, and all of the glass while still making the design architecturally and aesthetically pleasing.
Managing the sequence of construction, making sure the doorway was wide enough to accommodate tub installation, and moving walls to steal space from the primary bedroom were required. Thoughtful attention to detail, expert craftsmanship, and high-end materials all contributed to the beauty and success of this project. The result is a fabulous spa-like retreat.

My interest in design was sparked as a kid in 4H. I did a d demonstration at the Burt County Fair entitled “Beth’s Beautiful Bedroom.” I created a bedroom out of a box using doll furnishings and received a purple ribbon.
I earned by B.S. in interior design from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, and my first design position was at Nebraska Furniture Mart in the Design Gallery. I have been with Interiors Joan and Associates for over 30 years, all of which have been filled with fun, new clients, and exciting challenges. I enjoy mixing patterns and textures together to create designs that are not easy to duplicate, especially with furnishings and draperies.
