rYou know we love the feel-good events, and this Friday’s Guns & Hoses Boxing Challenge at Baxter Arena fits that bill perfectly. Every dollar from this event goes to support the First Responders Foundation, a nonprofit working directly with local police and fire departments to provide resources where they need them the most. Plus, you get to watch them fight it out to see who’s best. Learn how you can help here. And get tickets to this knock-down-drag-out match here.

rIn Mexico, Dia del Niño, aka Children’s Day, is a big deal. Here in Omaha, El Museo Latino is putting on a special celebration complete with games, books, prizes, music, and dancing. Did I mention it’s free?! So think of the kids this Saturday. Get out to South O and celebrate their joy, freedom, and fun-loving attitudes. Maybe even let yourself be a kid again for awhile? Also, don’t forget to check out the delicious local cuisine. (Perhaps this little gem here?) Get the details for this family event here.
Saturday, April 27:
rEveryone’s favorite librarian (and a favorite writer of ours) Wendy Townley has put out another book, Letters to Barley: Personal Stories My Dog Should Know. Find out what Barley knows when you purchase the book—and get it signed—at Hardy Coffee this Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Letters to Barley Book Signing. No worries if you can’t make it to this one. There are several others happening next month. Learn more about Townley and Barley here.
Saturday, April 27 to Sunday, April 28:
rEstablished in 2003, the Nebraska Renaissance Faire moves to Riverwest Park this year, due to the flooding. While there may not be dragons, there will be fire-breathing…and magic, juggling, and jousting. Oh, and pirates! This year’s event is combining the faire with the 12th Annual Midlands Pirate Festival. So bust out the feathered caps and peg legs, because this is one combo you won’t want to miss. Find out more here.
