Programs, Projects, and Appreciation

This newsletter we wanted to focus on projects created by former Omaha Magazine subjects to amuse and entertain you, and a special message from a former writer. We hope you find something that brings a little brightness to your day. Stay safe and take care.

Point of Color: Heather Lane is a former Omaha Magazine writer whose family was recently recognized for bringing some much-needed joy to her new hometown of Edina, Minnesota. Her family wanted to recognize and thank the people who are helping the rest of us survive during the coronavirus pandemic. A project that started as sidewalk chalk on a wall is now a community effort to spread the love through yard signs and even T-shirts. You can read more about it in this story from Minneapolis station KMSP FOX 9 News here, and find out more on her blog here.

Héctor Anchondo of Héctor Anchondo Band is an International Blues Challenge winner. He has recently taken to live-streaming on his Facebook page, and it’s delightful. On "Wine Wednesday" night he was taking requests. Follow him on social media for updates, or subscribe to his YouTube page here.

Eden Corbitt of Omaha Girls Rock let us know that with the uncertainty of camp season, OGR has decided to provide online resources for their students and social media community. Monday through Saturday OGR airs something for everyone to learn and grow in music and life on IGtv @omahagirlsrock here and their OGR YouTube channel here. Corbitt’s segment is called “Rhythm with Eden.” Be sure to check out all the programs here.

Artist Elizabeth Boutin is known for her paintings focusing on the inner turmoil of military veterans and the horrors of war. She recently recorded a stay-at-home artist talk explaining some of her work, which you can watch here. Boutin said she is considering doing more of these, so we'll keep you posted.

Recent B2B alum Robert Patterson has a rather unusual hobby when he’s not working his day job—hunting horror holy ground. Seriously. He has tracked down the filming locations of nearly 300 movies. He does venture outside the horror genre, including John Hughes’ darling Sixteen Candles. You can read all about it on his "Set-Jetter" blog here.

Comedian Angi Sada knows we'll take all the laughs we can get right now, so she has added some more content to her YouTube channel, which you can find here. She promises to try to add new content at least once a month, but she may be late…it’s kind of her thing.

You can catch up with performer Nadia Ra’Shaun Williams on her YouTube channel here, or tune into her newly revived podcast, The Sunlight Podcast, here. Who doesn’t need a little sunshine in their lives right now? She is also the president of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee for the Johnny Carson School, making sure there is representation through all areas of the program. Follow her and you can hear updates on that as well.
