Music Sessions, Thursday, Nov. 5:
This Thursday marks the debut of The Jewell Underground Sessions, and this particular event features some of Omaha’s own musical gems: Enjoli Mitchell, Myles Jasnowski, and Aly Peeler. Not to mention Andrew Bailie, Mitch Towne, David Hawkins, and Jason Emmond. The club has instituted a number of measures to help ensure the safety of patrons, including the requirement of face masks for all attendees and employees. Purchase tickets to this event here.
Art and Conversation, Friday, Nov. 6:
As usual, there are quite a few events happening in Benson this week. One Benson First Friday event is “Still We Rise” at Citylight Arts Project. This is an evening of art and conversation with artists and community leaders Celeste Butler, Patty Talbert, and Pamela Conyers-Hinson. A panel discussion will take place, starting at 7 p.m., and will include a Q&A session with the featured artists centered around storytelling and art in the black community. Award Announcements, Friday, Nov. 6:
The OEAA Nominee Reveal Show will be livestreamed from OutrSpaces to OEAA Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/YouTube channels this year (@oeaawards). For those who would like to attend a safe, outdoor event, there is a live broadcast at the MAMO Gallery in the parking lot of Citylight Benson Church (allowing for socially distanced viewing in open air). Jazz Nite DJs Kethro and Werdisbond will kick things off, and the winners of the lifetime achievement award will also be announced. For 15 years, the Omaha Entertainment and Arts Awards has recognized some of the most talented artists and entertainers in the Omaha area. Food Fanatics, Saturday, Nov. 7:
In celebration of its tenth and final year, The Read It & Eat Conference from Omaha Public Library will reflect on the past nine years, highlighting conference themes from Midwest foods to cooking with scraps. This year’s event is virtual and will feature interviews with cookbook authors, food writers, local chefs, and culinary experts, including: Omaha Magazine freelance writer, Kim Reiner; former Encounter columnist Brent Crampton; and several others previously featured in Omaha Magazine, including Summer Miller, Matt Weber, and Brian O’ Malley. The library’s culinary collection, including cookbooks and local menu archives, will be showcased along with other culinary ephemera. Clean Comedy at the Club, Sunday, Nov. 8:
Who couldn’t use a good laugh right now? If you need to get out of the house for some good, clean fun, check out comedian Jeff Allen’s The America I Grew Up In Tour at Omaha’s Funny Bone. Allen is known for his inspirational Christian comedy who finds humor in everyday family life. He has appeared in several movies and TV shows, performed at George W. Bush’s inauguration, and entertained the troops in Bahrain and on ships in the Persian Gulf and Indian Ocean. For forty years, Allen has honed his timing and flow, earning him praise from audiences and fellow comedians alike. Get your tickets here.
