Music To Move To and To Move You: July 16, 2020 Newsletter

Subscribe to this free weekly newsletter here.

Thursday, July 16: Get your music fix with Jazz on Your Green: LADAMA with local singing sensation Alexis Arai. LADAMA is a group of four women who harness music from their respective countries of origin to produce soulful Latin alternative music. So grab your laptop, your preferred libation, and have a Latin dance party on your lawn. Learn more about this event here, and find future Jazz on Your Green events here.

Friday, July 17: Started in New York City, CreativeMornings now has chapters around the world. This Friday morning, you can hear local author Portia Love during CreativeMornings - Underdog, where she will speak about her experiences being an underdog. Love has reworked her story A Day in the Life, turning it into a play depicting the stereotypes and typecasts associated with homeless people. Though the story was written a decade before she found herself living at Omaha’s Stephen Center, her time there helped her create a more recent adaptation. Register for your free ticket here.

Saturday, July 18: It’s easy to feel a little spiritually depleted during these tough times. Scatter Joy Acres is inviting you to join them for an evening of music, testimony, prayer, and fellowship at their Faith in the Valley event. Is there a better setting for a little pick-me-up than out in nature, surrounded by animals? For more information, click here. Read Omaha Magazine’s story on this versatile home here.

Saturday, July 18 and Sunday, July 19: There are a couple ways you can help the residents of Pine Ridge this weekend during the annual Toy Drive for Pine Ridge Summer Propane Benefit. This year's event will have two venues, with Saturday’s event streaming online at Live From Mars House and Sunday’s show being held in-person at Stocks n Bonds. All proceeds go to the propane fund to help elders on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation stay warm in the freezing South Dakota winter. Donate to the organization at any time here.

Event times and details may change. Check with venue or event organizer to confirm.
