Any Time: Omaha Public Library is open for curbside checkout! You can now check out materials from five branches around the area. Since temporarily closing its doors due to the coronavirus, the library has been offering content like e-books online. They are still encouraging patrons to explore resources online and to hold onto any materials they have while the library tries to find a safe way to do returns. But if you are one who has been craving the excitement that comes with holding the book you’re about to read in your hands, this is for you. Thursday, May 14: Get your art fix with Live at Low End featuring musician Dustin Bushon, otherwise known as FXTHR^, and visual artist Alex Myers. FXTHR^ is an artist, musician, and composer currently based in Omaha, Nebraska, and has worked with a variety of instruments and objects in sound concept and design. Friday, May 15: Local musician and pastor Mike Harvat is performing a Facebook Live Benefit Concert for inCOMMON Community Development. He will be playing cover songs and will also feature a short conversation with Gabe Jasso about his involvement with inCOMMON. Harvat has played in a couple local rock groups, and he has a blog where he shares stories from those days. Saturday, May 16 to Sunday, May 17: Jazz Nite is a weekly online series hosted by Kethro & DJ WERD celebrating jazz roots and culture from around the globe. You can join them every Sunday from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. This Saturday, they are teaming up with Film Streams to promote Up From The Streets, a new film documenting New Orleans jazz roots. Sunday, May 17: The Poetry & Music Project is a collaboration between Opera Omaha and Nebraska Writers Collective. It brings together student poets (grades K-12) and their words with composers who create original music, exploring the connections between poetry and music. This year 10 poems were selected to be put to music, and you can hear them on a Facebook Livestream here. Holland Community Opera Fellows will be accompanied by Opera Omaha Head of Music Sean Kelly on piano. Nebraska State Poet Matt Mason is the presenter. Learn more about the project here.
