Musician in Residence Finalists Perform, Thursday, Aug. 13:
The Capitol District invited local musicians to compete in the Musician in Residence competition for 12 months of rent in exchange for live performance time. Finalists include Andre Vander Velde, Jocelyn Music (who you can read about here), Brady Wells, and Tyler Butler. Each will perform a couple songs and the winner will be selected by a panel of judges and your votes. Attendees are required to follow social distancing and wear masks. Table seating is limited, so feel free to bring a chair to the event. See more info here.
Splashin’ Around, Friday, August 14:
Cool off on one of the hotter days of the week at the Summer Splash—Family Zoo Adventure at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo. This event is made perfect for families. Access includes Alaskan Adventure and Stingray Beach, plus an icy treat. Beverages will not be available for purchase, so bring a reusable water bottle and don’t forget the face masks. Super(hero) Art, Friday, Aug. 14:
It’s time for Friday 2 on Vinton, and we’re holding out for a hero. (If you get that reference, you are at least as old as me.) You can find yours at Apollon Art Space, whose Heroes, Superheroes…and everything in between art show hopes to inspire a little escapism and “the hope/optimism that good will prevail, and the world will be bright again.” Learn more about show dates here.
The Work of Aldo Leopold, Saturday, August 15:
Join instructor Ron Cisar of Hitchcock Nature Center for A Land Ethic Workshop: Monarch Migration, part of a program celebrating Aldo Leopold. This online event will focus on Leopold’s essay “Green Pasture” and explore insect identification, monarch butterfly migration and tagging, and more. This program is intended for those 14 and over with an interest in the natural world, no experience or prior knowledge is required to participate. Online pre-registration is required here, as space is limited.
