Earth Day is a day of education about environmental issues that’s celebrated globally on April 22.
Omaha kicked things off a little early, with Earth Day Omaha 2019 in Elmwood Park on Saturday, April 13.
Despite the slight chill in the air, the area was filled with families, happy dogs wagging their tails, and children running around the park.
Many people chose to sit in the grass and enjoy some great music. There were also tents set up with activities for all ages. Tree planting, yoga, tree climbing, and a science zone were just a few of the earth-conscious activities on hand.
The main stage had entertainment all day long with Michael Murphy, Edem Soul Music, OJAI, and many more. Wood-fired pizza, egg rolls, breakfast burritos, sandwiches, and other treats were served in food tents and trucks located around the park. There was also a beer garden where those 21 and over could enjoy local brews, including an exclusive IPA served in compostable cups.
This event is a great way to bring awareness about what is happening to our planet and how we can help prevent it. There were several booths showing the effects of plastic waste and trash on the earth and what it will slowly start becoming.

Companies such as Hillside Solutions and EverWild Greenspaces offered their ideas on how to help reduce and sustain. But they are just two of over 100 exhibitors and vendors who came out to promote and support best practices, environmental protection, and resource conservation—including area nonprofits, businesses, governmental organizations, community groups and schools. It was a great learning experience for all involved.
