Castle Capers Thursday, Feb. 11 to Sunday, Sept. 5:
The folks at Omaha Children’s Museum have an enchanting castle adventure waiting for you with their Fairytale Land exhibit. They’re inviting you to groom the unicorns at the stables, prepare a feast in the castle kitchen, and scale the castle wall. They’ve created a space for imaginative, open play where children can create their own legendary stories. The museum is taking COVID-19 precautions, which means attendees, including members, need to reserve their time slot here now.

The Allure of Jazz, Friday, Feb. 12:
If you’re still looking for something special to do this weekend, head across the river to Council Bluffs for A Romantic Evening With Jackie Allen at The Arts Center. With a career spanning four decades, the renowned vocalist has recorded a dozen CDs and garnered wide critical acclaim. Her smoky, suggestive voice, distinctive phrasing, and improvisatory chops are emblematic of a true jazz singer. Capacity is now 240, with two seats between each group of six or less, and every other row is closed. So you’d better get your tickets here ASAP.

Masks and Manga, Friday, Feb. 12 to Sunday, Feb. 14:
While we’re all wearing masks anyway, why not head to Kanpai Con this weekend? This convention is a community-focused annual Japanese cultural appreciation convention, with a focus on anime, manga, and video gaming. You can meet artists, watch anime screenings, and attend panels. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. For safety reasons, there will be temp checks, hand sanitizing stations, and of course, masks are mandatory. (Which shouldn’t be a problem here.) It will be running at 50% capacity, so be sure to register here now.

A Triumphant Return, Saturday, Feb. 13 to Sunday, Feb. 14:
The Omaha Symphony announced that Ankush Kumar Bahl has returned to Omaha following a two-year search process and a unanimous decision. His first performance as the recently named Music Director Designate of the Omaha Symphony is Mendelssohn & Sibelius. The first half of the performance will open with Mendelssohn’s The Hebrides overture, a goosebump-raising, blazing adventure for the strings especially. The second half will feature Sibelius’ lush, romantic Symphony No. 2. Get your tickets for this socially distanced show here.

Event times and details may change. Check with venue or event organizer to confirm.
