GRRRL Camp 2024 kicked off this last Friday and Saturday for their second year at Falconwood Park.
The local event aimed to uplift female and non-binary artists in a festival setting.
While the weekend started off a little soggy with intermittent rain, the musicians, the howling crowd, and the myriad of art vendors carried on.
Attendees donned ponchos, lifted sweatshirts overhead, or just got drenched to hear the music despite the weather.
Local acts included Lincoln’s Estrogen Projection, known for a punky and energetic sound that always seems to bring dedicated fans.
Art, and especially music events are many times male-dominated spaces. GRRRL Camp’s goal of a more open and inviting space for people of all genders was surely accomplished.
Many of the attendees, and even some of the bands attending while on tour like Shannon and the Clams voiced how happy they were to be at such a unique event in contrast with a typical festival.
If you had the chance to attend, then you know how special it is to have local events with the goals that GRRRL Camp brought with it.
Hopefully this year’s event will be one of many local events that showcases what diverse talent Omaha, and Nebraska at large have to offer.
