Food Day Omaha Event, Thursday, Oct. 8:
Ready for a wheel-y good time? (I’m so sorry…I couldn’t help it.) Get your butt in the driver’s seat and head to this Drive-In Movie Fundraising Event featuring Wasted! A Story of Food Waste at Falconwood Park. This movie on the problem of food waste and how to fix it was produced by celebrity chef and documentarian Anthony Bourdain, who died one year after the release of this film. Proceeds raised by the event will support Saving Grace Perishable Food Rescue’s important work of connecting nutritious food to those most in need. There will be raffle prizes to win and other donation opportunities, a cash bar, and gourmet snack trays for purchase. Be sure to register here.
Whiskey-filled Weekend, Friday, Oct. 9 through Sunday, Oct. 11:
While we may not be able to crowd ourselves into Whiskey Fest this year, that doesn’t mean we have to abstain. Join the Whiskey Walkabout this weekend to get your sip on. With over 20 downtown locations offering deals on select spirits, you’re sure to get a mix of your favorites and maybe find a new one. To see the full list of participating businesses, head here.
Pets on Cross-Country Parade, Saturday, Oct. 10:
The Nebraska Humane Society is giving you the chance to see some especially friendly faces and maybe take one home this weekend. Simply head to the FIDO Friendly Magazine’s 12th Annual Cross-Country Pet Adoption Tour, Get Your Licks on Route 66. Meet and greet adoptable dogs and cats without an appointment. But be sure to catch the Adoption Dog Parade at 11 a.m. You can also shop for homemade treats and toys and spin the prize wheel for the chance to win something for your new (or old) pet. Find out more here.
Shopping Excursion, Saturday, Oct. 10 to Sunday, Oct. 11:
Feeling the need to get out of the house? (I know I am!) Take a quick drive to Walnut, Iowa, where you can attend the Walnut Antique Fall Festival. Social distance while soaking in those small-town vibes as you shop for pottery, stoneware, collectibles, and more. Only in it for the window shopping? You’re in luck, because admission is free. Find all the details here, and don’t forget your masks so you can check out those inside dealers as well.
Go On (A Foodie) Tour, Sunday, Oct. 11:
As with most things this year, the Immigrant Legal Center’s annual World Food Truck Tour is going to be a little different—introducing the 2020 Drive Thru Food Truck World Tour. This year’s event on 13th Street will allow attendees to stay in their cars while supporting the Center’s mission. Participating Omaha favorites include Omaha Steaks, El Arepon, Okra African Grill, Parthenon, Maria Bonita, and Wonton Jon’s. All attendees going through the drive thru will receive a canvas tote bag with one food item from each establishment. Purchase tickets here.
Event times and details may change. Check with venue or event organizer to confirm.
