Revered as a “living legend” by Oprah Winfrey, Giovanni’s literary legacy spans over 30 volumes of poetry and prose, including beloved children’s books. Among her numerous accolades are Woman of the Year Awards from Ebony and Mademoiselle magazines, Governor’s Awards from Tennessee and Virginia, and the prestigious Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize from the Poetry Foundation. With her distinguished career also marked by several award-winning spoken-word albums, Giovanni’s presence at the fundraising event is a true honor.
