"It starts with your feet,” said Lori Borer, owner of the Lincoln Fleet Feet store and the chain’s two Omaha-area locations. “If your feet hurt, you don’t want to move…We really take that seriously. I make sure my staff is trained well and educated.”
Fleet Feet is part of a network of specialty running, walking, and fitness stores. Borer said the company’s fitting process ensures that athletic shoes fit properly and help wearers move their best for activities ranging from short walks to long-distance running. Medical professionals often refer patients to the store.
“We have a 3D fit process,” Borer said, explaining that size, width, volume, and heel size are among the dozen measurements taken. “It’s much more dialed in than just looking at someone walk.”
Fleet Feet staff then use the data to recommend the best shoe for each client considering both comfort and function. The company’s relationships with many manufacturers means customers who need extended sizes and widths can also be fitted.
“We know shoes very well,” Borer said. “But everyone’s feet are different.”
