Do Space's State of the Art (SOTA) speaker series provides a platform for local individuals and groups who are using technology in innovative ways to share their work and ideas. Each month will feature a different artist, maker, entrepreneur, industry professional or thought leader in an effort to stimulate discussion and inspire ideas around the topics of art and technology. Join Artist Ella Weber for a discussion of her recent body of work, Della. Della is the story of a 31-year old delicatessen clerk searching for love, laughter and well-balanced lunch inside a transactional world. Fresh out of art school with a pile of debt, Della sleeps in her parents' windowless basement and slices ham in a grocery store deli. Struggling to find purpose in the minimum wage labor of the 8-hour-shift, three existential slices of ham hover above. “Who ham I? What ham I? Where ham I?”¬¬ Working across video, comedy and text Della explores identity within a performance-based consumer culture, asking “Is good, good enough?” Across the counter, lines between art and life, labor and rest, performance and reality, employee and customer are blurred.
