rWeird weather got you going, “What the what?” Do something about it this weekend at Earth Day Omaha in Elmwood Park. Dust off your bike, check out some electric vehicles, and recycle your electronics, all while learning what you can do to help keep our planet green. This year’s event is running on a biofuel blend to reduce consumption of fossil fuels, and you can visit their Zero Waste stations to learn how to responsibly dispose of food scraps, non-recyclable organic waste, paper, cardboard, plastic, and metal. It’s not all about learning, though. There’s plenty of fun to be had, including great live music, a variety of food, a beer garden, and around 100 vendors to visit. Get the full day’s schedule here.

rThe Malcolm X Memorial Foundation collaborated with artist Jordan Weber to build the 4MX Greenhouse. This weekend is the Spring Greenhouse Opening and you are invited to come check out the building, constructed on the historic grounds of the Malcolm X birthsite in North Omaha. The greenhouse will aid in the storing of produce and work collaboratively with the already established Shabazz Community Garden. The community is invited to this free, family-friendly event, where they can listen to live music from Liz Gre, followed by the breaking of bread, meditation, and a Salah prayer. Read more about the event here, and more about the foundation here.
