rPICK OF THE WEEK: Friday, Dec. 1: Catch the Grand Opening of The B Side, the flipside of the Benson Theatre, this weekend. You can get a tour of the theater, listen to some tunes from local musicians, get some drinks from the bar, and see some incredible art from local artists Bart Vargas and Nadia Shinkunis. rFriday, Dec. 1: Ever wonder how the rest of the world celebrates Christmas and the holiday season? You can find out at The Durham Museum’s Ethnic Holiday Festival. From Africa to Ireland to Japan, you’ll get to experience a little slice of holiday cheer from a variety of civilizations from over 40 local cultural organizations. Music, dancing, and traditional dress combined with often hard-to-find ethnic food and gifts, this celebration is guaranteed to get you in the holiday spirit. rSaturday, Dec. 2: This is your chance to see Nebraska Public Radio’s iconic storyteller live and in action. NPR’s Ira Glass is the creator, producer, and host of This American Life. He will be at the Holland Performing Arts Center this Saturday, sharing his knowledge and entertaining the audience with his unique talents. Follow along as he shares his life story using audio clips, music, and video. This American Life is over 20 years old, and Glass made it happen. You can hear how when you go see him this weekend. rSaturday, Dec. 2: Keep showing your support for small businesses this weekend by heading to Small Guy Promotions Holiday Fair at The Hope Center for Kids’ Hope Skate. Small Guy Promotions helps entrepreneurs, charitable organizations, and entertainers broaden their audience. Not only will this event give you the opportunity to get to know small, local business owners, you’ll also have the chance to acquaint yourself with community nonprofit organizations. The fun starts at 2 p.m. and goes until 6 p.m. Admission is free and so are the raffles, so bring the whole family out and enjoy some live entertainment while celebrating community. rSunday, Dec. 3: Immortalize your affection for your fur babies this year at the Holiday Pet Photo Fundraiser at Wag. Whether the love of your life is a dog, a cat, or even a ferret, take them to Wag to get the perfect picture for your annual holiday cards. Let the voices of more than 70 angelic singers lift you out of the holiday grind and put you in a festive mood. The Grammy-nominated group will perform a combination of holiday classics and new music, featuring special guests that include Omaha’s own Quiana Smith.
