The goal for the primary suite in this new build by Thomas David Homes was to offer a design solution that would make a big impact when one entered the space.

In the bedroom, this was achieved by adding metallic 3D wall panels, using transitional style furniture, and creating a mix of patterns and textures that work together to create a classic design with a modern twist.

In the en suite, the floor tile layout was inspired by the angled accent shower wall, which helps draw one into the space. Light sconces were installed in the mirror to give it a clean look without sacrificing mirror size, and built-in shelving was added to provide extra storage and display room. We also chose a modern vessel sink to make a statement while complementing the overall bath design.

Continuity between the two spaces was achieved by carrying over geometric patterns and blending metal and wood finishes throughout the suite. We wanted to keep the bedroom neutral with subtle pops of color, so the bedding and throws were a great way to incorporate the navy blue color. We also chose bathroom artwork with neutral and blue hues that pull the design of both rooms together.

We faced a couple of significant design challenges with this project. Incorporating a variety of finished materials made it difficult to blend without making the design feel too busy. Through trial and error, we eventually found a combination that was aesthetically pleasing but didn’t feel over the top. Since this was a home completed for the Street of Dreams tour, a lot of our selections were made before the house was sold. Designing a space without working with the homeowner posed a unique challenge; our design needed to appeal to a variety of potential buyers.

The end result, however, is a stunningly beautiful modern bedroom oasis with mass appeal.
