Cut Spike was incorporated in 2008 and hasn’t yet stopped growing. “We’re still small, but we’re growing,” says Jason Payne, co-owner and president. “Just a few years ago we only had 12 barrels in-house, now we have 150 barrels.” They also recently added two more whiskeys and launched distribution in both Colorado and Michigan.

What Payne describes as an “outward growth” is simply proof of Cut Spike’s popularity in the Omaha area and beyond. They do things a little differently at Cut Spike. “We’re proud to make 100 percent of our whiskey in-house,” says Payne. “We’re the only one doing that in Nebraska.” Their premium hand-crafted vodka, barrel aged rum, award-winning whiskey, and well-attended craft distillery tours make them a favorite in the area.

Cut Spike’s mission is to deliver artisanal, handcrafted spirits. They may have started small, but their outward growth may prove to spread their impressive offerings far beyond what Cut Spike anticipated—because that’s what happens when a distillery puts great thought and focus into what they do.
