Jan. 27-29 Weekend Picks

Jan 25, 2017 10:44AM ● By Eric Stoakes

Omaha Magazine Executive Editor Doug Meigs offered up his pick of the weekend: A scientist from the Smithsonian will be at SAC Aerospace Museum Saturday speaking about “How to Survive a Black Hole” as part of the museum’s new exhibit Black Holes: Space Warps and Time Twists. “I love black holes and futuristic sci-fi stuff,” Meigs says. On display through June 4, the exhibit immerses visitors in the modern search for black holes—the most mysterious and powerful objects in the universe—through a variety of interactive and multimedia experiences. “The exhibit really captivates audiences and increases their understanding of core ideas in physical science,” says Deb Hermann, SAC marketing director.

Back on Earth (Friday and Saturday) but equally fascinating will be a dance performance by aetherplough at the KANEKO as part of the gallery’s Passion and Obsession exhibit.

Fun for the entire family can be found starting Friday with the premiere of The True Story of the Three Little Pigs at the Rose Theater.

Saturday is a big night for great live music. Lots of my favorites performing: Rothsteen will be one of the many acts at Take Cover: Omaha, a Hear Nebraska fundraiser at the Waiting Room; hip-hop king TKO will be celebrating his birthday at Reverb; and Conny Franko and CJ Mills will be supporting The Regulation’s album release show at the Slowdown. I’m going to try to hit all three shows.

Before heading to club, fill up on one of my guilty pleasures at Midtown Crossing’s first-ever Mac N’ Cheese Binge. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., celebrate one of food’s greatest marriages with $3 samplers and beer pairings at participating Midtown Crossing eateries, including Chicago Dawg House and the new Leadbelly.
